9th of June
What a day, not only did we celebrate three years of Reuben, but we also welcomed Lilliana Naomi Das (Reuben's cousin).
We went down to the woods today and just enjoyed being out and partying with family and friends with a lovely barbeque. loved how being out in the open allowed us to relax and be free. we weren't saying "no don't do that" or " can you stop that" to the kids, but rather... "let's go explore" or "let's do that"... loved it, loved this day and love our boy. very thankful for this wonderful memory.
Happy Birthday Reuben.

I made it
it was a dream come true moment.
for me liverpool is about my big brother. i looked up to him when i was young. i looked up to him a lot. and when he cam in with the announcement that he supported liverpool. i was hooked. i envied his bag his scarf as he went to saturday morning football. i was a fairly poorly kid. i never made it to saturday morning football.
the allegiance to the Reds stuck. my big bro went on to like spurs and then settled with Crystal Palace. i, however, stuck with the reds.
grew up with them. loved the way Ian rush would make me feel when i saw him on the pitch. loved it when the words came out of from the seminal gerry and the pacemakers anthem.
i always wanted to get to see them in liverpool and recently we were given some tickets by the FA for an auction at an event i was involved in setting up. i head it was liverpool and got all excited. however the highest bidder happen to work with me and said he couldn't make it and asked whether i would like to go. i jumped up and down with joy.
i dreamed of this moment. to walk down to the stadium to see the team that has been a big brother to me since i was 5.
here's that moment my dream came alive. the experience was magical, made the 5 hour commute worthwhile. the only disappointment was the team itself. we lost. dismal performance. but what a night. still smiling now :)

Holiday patterns
A friend shared with me a pearl of wisdom: "Over the years I have observed holidays tend to follow a pattern. Its a panic to get there. Then there's an incident that fires up everyone. Once that has calmed over, you relax and enjoy."

Great trains
My father had a set of special plates. For special occasions. These and the special cutlery used to come out when we had guests. Even at festive times.
I always remember the plates. They were majestic. Very special. What I remember was the pictures on them.
They had old steam trains on them.
Today I saw them for real in the York train museum. Wow. They are still majestic in real life.

Morning time
It's just turned 7am.
Cup of tea in my hand. 3 of us awake. I'm still on holiday.
Sometimes 7am can be just awesome.

Cononley
Holiday time.
Booked the time off ages ago. Fits in with the Easter break. Nowhere booked. We kind of have no money.
Asked around in an impersonal way. Nada.
We wait. Still nothing.
Monday morning comes. A new week and as we launch into it Angie fires a prayer saying: it's in your hands. I was resigned to a stay-cation.
It was a long day. Endless meetings and preparation. As the eve draws in we close with a prayer. Angie then shoots to prepare for an Easter party. I go to sit down and before my bum hits the cushion the phone rings. I answer. Someone says "You're going on holiday. We've arranged for you to go to Cononley."
I gasp. Hardly expressive of the feelings erupting and just blurt a tired yet poignant word of gratitude.
Angie gets back. I say we're going on holiday and explain the sequence. She says: I prayed for that just this morning.
Amen.

Stop Kony campaign
The power of social media hits me as a status update, a newsfeed, a tweet, event a retweet.
Its here.
Awhile ago I recall planning some efforts to push ideas from the underground to the overground. A way to disrupt. The idea remained a discussion between a few friends.
So over the past 48 hours we've been hearing about Jospeh Kony and the Invisible Children campaign to arrest him via making the world care. Have a look at this film:
KONY 2012 from INVISIBLE CHILDREN on Vimeo.
I was impressed. Actually, I was touched. I was touched at a deep level that I could do something and also inpspired that my voice, my action counted. Bring it on... what next.
But hang on I've been here before. Make Poverty History- I marched. I wore white. Live Aid. I watched. I prayed.
Did what I want to see change actually happen? Did I really make a difference? The reality is yes... but I can't say that I feel connected to that "yes". It just seems drowned out by the next challenege. It actually seems a distant memory. Is this going to be any different.
I've met Child Solidiers, even worked with one. He's handiwork of Kony's rebels. He's gone back to help his community. He's gone back- I have deep respect for him doing this when he could have walked away. I've helped partnerships to assist groups in Northern Uganda, Southern Sudan help rebuild lives and livlihoods. My colleagues have been to the region. Whilst no expert I do know the name and some of what is going on.
So here we are, in the age of constant barrage of voices. This happens to be a loud one coming from the groud up. It has my attention. It has my 5 minutes. I watched the video- that's 28 minutes (usually anything over 3 minutes is long).
Afterwards I sit back and contemplate action. Am I going to do something again? Is this worth my time and attention? Sould I do something? The answer is simple: yes. Not just a Yes and emphatic one at that. I care about this. I may not use the campaign material. But i will speak out against injustice. I will speak out for my friend and for others. It's not about the campaign and its makers- whilst they are seemingly quite cool and hats off for all their efforts. I care because it is right to care. Because I, too, have been loved and brought up with dignity. My responsibility is to live this and serve for others who do not have this luxury. It starts however with love. This is not just about "rightness" for me but an expression of care and love for one another. It seems that there is a moral high ground here with this particular campaign. A rightness about it. I'm glad for this and that it is allowing others to step on. But for me its never just about rightness. It must be more. It must be lived, re-lived, and lived again. Its about loving and caring for one another each new day. To love, to care. I chose to do both.
